T.J. Altieri has dedicated his life to education, exploration, and connection, building a career as a teacher, author, and leader. His extensive background has helped him engage with diverse communities, spanning roles at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, public schools in Connecticut, archaeological excavations, and environmental conservation projects.
Since 2012, T.J. has served as a Social Studies/Anthropology instructor in Connecticut Public Schools and currently coordinates the Conservation Discovery Corps at Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo, blending teaching with conservation fieldwork. This program won the Association of Zoos and Aquariums' 2014 Education Award, and T.J. was also featured on WICRV radio for his wolf studies in Yellowstone National Park.
Recognized as Hofstra University's Alumnus of the Month in June 2014, T.J. received the university's Asian Studies Essay Award for his compelling writing on Japanese literature. His passion for exploration extends to leading expedition paddling initiatives as the Long Island Chair for Kayak for a Cause, raising over $14,000 for local charities, and founding Paddle Posse, a paddlecraft club.
In 2017, T.J. produced TEDxDanbury: What Lies Beneath?, showcasing engaging speakers across several disciplines. A scholar of ancient Celtic and European archaeology with a focus on gender studies since 1996, TJ has also participated in Cultural Resource Management all over the East Coast with firms like The Louis Berger Group.
As an author, T.J. began releasing titles in 2019 on Amazon and Kindle, and has four novels currently published, some of which earned him a feature at the American Association of University Women's 2023 Author Luncheon and Book Signing.
